Our History
Carr’s Rug Cleaning was founded by Bob Carr, a former speech pathologist and owner of Fiber-Seal of East Tennessee. It was here that Bob began learning how to properly care for high-end textiles. Soon after, he was introduced to Oriental rug cleaning with a visit to Corrigan Rug Cleaners in Winchester, Virginia, which led to a membership to the Mid-South Professional Cleaners Association.
It was becoming apparent that education and training would be what sets Carr’s apart from other cleaning companies. Over the years, we have led the way in the textile cleaning industry in Knoxville by becoming the first certified carpet and upholstery cleaning technician, the first Master Textile Cleaner, and the first Certified Rug Specialist in the state of Tennessee. There are now two Certified Rug Specialists on staff. Bob has been a sitting council member of the National Institute of Rug Cleaning and is a former board member of the Association of Rug Care Specialists (ARCS). Operations manager, Ben Knause, is a Certified Rug Specialist and has served on the education committee of ARCS.
